Breeding Soundness Exams

Putting an unfertile or subfertile bull into a breeding group will have drastic consequences to a natural service breeding program or a clean-up pen. Making sure the bull is not lame and is disease free and fertile is a must before sending a bull into the breeding group. Veterinarians at the Perry Veterinary Clinic can do a full breeding soundess exam to evaluate fertility. Taking key measurements, examination of external genitalia, and reviewing sperm numbers and morphology allows us to score a bull on fertility. This ensures a good bull going into a breeding group.

Rumen Fistula Surgery

Creating an on farm rumen donor by placing a rumen cannula into a "donor" cow has become more and more common. Placing rumen fluid from the donor cow into an off-feed animal will aid in getting proper rumen "bugs" re-established more rapidly. Veterinarians at the Perry Veterinary Clinic can do the rumen fistula surgery and train your personel in proper rumen fluid donation technique.
