Beef Cattle Services

Perry Vet's large animal team provides comprehensive veterinary care for beef cattle operations across western New York and northern Pennsylvania. Our veterinarians are eager to help you achieve your goals and offer the services below. Client and veterinary safety is always our top priority, and beef animals must be properly restrained in a chute for all exams and procedures.

Disease Diagnosis and Treatment

Perry Vet offers routine disease diagnosis and treatment. The clinic has full in-house blood chemistry and hematology units to aid in the diagnosis of disease and metabolic problems. Samples can also be sent to diagnostic laboratories across the country for advanced diagnostic testing of individual or herd problems.

Herd Outbreak Investigations

Our veterinarians are available to determine the cause of a disease outbreak and create a plan for treatment and prevention in your herd.

Nutrition Counseling

Have the nutritional needs of your herd evaluated by a Perry Vet large animal healthcare professional. Services available range from simple supplement and feed program evaluation to complete ration balancing and inventory management.

Making sure a bull is not lame and is disease free and fertile is a must before sending the bull into a breeding group. Perry Vet can do a full breeding soundness exam to evaluate fertility. Taking key measurements, examination of external genitalia, and reviewing sperm numbers and morphology allows us to score a bull on fertility.

Breeding Soundness Exams

Castration

Castration services are available for a range of animal ages. We recommend castrating animals before 2 months of age to reduce wound healing time, pain, and risk of infection. Castration of animals greater than 2 months of age requires a squeeze chute or the use of sedation. All ages of animals to be castrated should have received 2 doses of a tetanus vaccine 3-4 weeks apart with the last dose at least 2 weeks before the procedure.

Parasite Management Plans

High levels of resistance to dewormers makes creating a tailored parasite management plan a must. Plans include which classes of animals should be prioritized, which dewormer to use and when, and how to monitor the effectiveness of the program.
